Sure thing, let’s dive in:

So, back in 2016, there was this big to-do with Bethesda Softworks going “hey, we’re revamping Prey, stay tuned!” Arkane Studios, those geniuses behind the Dishonored games, were at the helm. But get this—I mean, how classic is this?—they slap the same name on it, “Prey,” even though it’s got, like, almost zero to do with that 2006 Prey. Seriously, aliens are the only common thread. Corporate’s weird sometimes, right? Anyway, let’s keep going.
Fast forward to 2017, and boom, Arkane’s version of Prey lands on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Critics enjoyed it, and hey, it made those “Best of 2017” lists. But, here’s the kicker—it didn’t exactly fly off the shelves. Sold 60% less in the first week than Dishonored 2 had. Ouch. And it didn’t stick around in the charts for long. Sadly, Arkane Austin, the team behind the game, got shut down by Microsoft in 2024. No new Prey for us. Meh. But wait—there might be a silver lining coming up.
Oh, and speaking of upcoming stuff, there’s this game called Judas hovering on the horizon. Not a sequel to Arkane’s Prey, but it might just fill that space exploration void. No pun intended, but kind of? Anyway.
Let’s talk Judas. Ken Levine, you know him, right? BioShock fame? Legend. He’s got this new sci-fi game brewing, Judas, his first big gig since 2013. And it’s kind of a cool deal with Ghost Story Games stepping in. Rumor has it, Judas has the immersive sim feel, with nods to both System Shock and BioShock vibes. It’s set on this spaceship, Mayflower, like, heading to Proxima Centauri. It’s got this rebellious heroine, Judas, leading the charge against some computerized overlords. Sounds intense, doesn’t it?
Player freedom’s a huge deal in Judas—“narrative LEGOs” as Levine calls ‘em. Players can tweak story paths, which is meant to amp up replayability. Also, there’s this mix of stealth and action, so you can be all stealthy-spy or guns-a-blazin’.
And—hold up—they’ve got ex-Arkane folks working on it. Makes Judas and Prey even more of a family doesn’t it? They’re both first-person shooters, set in space, and all about player choice. Pretty neat intersections, huh?
So, maybe watch out for Judas. Or don’t. But it’s on my radar for sure.
