Popular funny streaming thingy, Dropout—once known as College Humor—kind of blew up online with this show called Game Changer. So, there’s Sam Reich, who’s the boss over there, and he’s got these comedians doing all kinds of wacky, often weirdly genius games every episode. The show’s a hit. And hey, wouldn’t it be wild if they made it a video game? Spoiler: They probably will.
I ended up chatting with Reich. It was supposed to be about Game Changer’s game stuff—how they dream up these games, test ‘em, tweak ‘em, the whole shebang. We’re putting that full interview out later, but, of course, I had to ask: Ever thought of turning your shows into video games?
Reich over Zoom goes, “Yeah, for sure.” Super direct. Kind of surprised me really. They’re thinking of something based on Dimension 20 (that’s their cool D&D thing) or Game Changer.
He said, “I think that we would be into that and we’ve talked about it.” Okay, cool. But then he sort of rambles on about it being more about having enough…what did he say…oh, “bandwidth.” Means they’d need serious time and energy, I guess. They want it to be real and personal. They’re not just gonna hand it off to someone else. Reckon they want it to feel just right.
But man, he also went on about how crazy expensive and time-sucking game-making is. It’s like they’ve got these ideas floating around but actually making them happen is a whole different story.
I had to ask if this video game thing was real or just a pipe dream. He was pretty clear—“Definitely have ideas” and they’re figuring it out. Like, they’re trying these web games from Game Changer to get the feel for it. Dipping their toes in, I guess.
Reich seemed super sure—like, a Game Changer game is in the cards someday. Just gotta figure the what and when, right?
Oh, and by the way, Game Changer’s season 7 finale dropped on Dropout on August 11, just in case you missed it!
