Toree Saturn from Diplodocus Games, right? So, imagine this: you’re all set for another 3D platformer ride. Toree’s back, and, seriously, what even is this game? I can’t put my finger on it. But the whole vibe screams late ’90s and early 2000s. Those were the days. Remember those tunes? Anyway, here we are with Toree, battling it out with Hawkee. Who’s the hero? Yeah, Toree. Villain? Hawkee, duh. A total retro throwback, this whole soundtrack thing. I mean, you’ll probably either love it or… no, you’ll love it.
The game’s like, “Hey, run! Jump! Get stars!” You know that drill, right? Sure, you could rush through, or do that collector thing. I always get sidetracked collecting stuff, who doesn’t? Grab stars, use the analog stick to zoom around, press A or B for jumps—pretty basic. There’s also some homing dash deal to smack big stars for a boost or a height thing. And if you’re feeling all chaotic, a good old ground smash with the ZR button gives you a speed kick. Smash and dash—it’s a thing.
Toree Saturn drops today for Nintendo Switch, costing about a coffee’s worth at $4.99. A perfect nostalgia trip if SEGA Saturn games were your jam back then. I’m guessing that’s why it’s called Toree Saturn? Makes sense, though it’s not like they spell it out. Maybe they do? Who knows.
Oh, and just a personal rant, but why do games keep making us fight birds and other cute creatures? Toree’s a good guy, until he pecks your eyes out for questioning his protagonist status. Anyway — wait, am I going off-topic? Ah, forget it.
This review’s from a Nintendo Switch copy Diplodocus Games handed out. Thought you might wanna know — you know, for full transparency and all. Anyway, give Toree a whirl if zippy, quirky platformers with a dash of nostalgia are your scene.
