US-based EA—yeah, the big name in gaming—is pulling the plug on Anthem next year. Or, um, whenever January 12th, 2026 is. It’s like they’re saying, “Hey, you’ve had your fun, but it’s time to move on.” No more buying shiny in-game currency either. But, if you’ve got some leftover coins rattling around, feel free to blow them while you still can.
“We totally love you,” they kinda gushed in a blog post, full of gratitude or whatever. It’s like, “Thanks for sticking around even when things got rough.” Sweet, right?
Now, they’re like, “No layoffs here!” but, who really knows? Jobs could still vanish into thin air eventually. It’s kinda up in the air.
Anthem was BioWare and EA’s attempt at diving into the whole live-service universe. When it dropped in early 2019… well, it kinda flopped. Somehow, juicy tidbits about its rocky ride to launch trickled out not long after.
By the end of 2019, BioWare was all like, “We’re totally fixing it!” They doubled down on this with Anthem Next or something. But spoilers: that went nowhere fast. Classic, huh?
