Oh man, guess what? The Jackbox Party Pack 11 is landing on Xbox this fall, and… okay, maybe I shouldn’t be this excited, but I totally am. Five brand new games! There’s this joke-writing thing, a cozy drawing escape, something with sound effects (not sure if it’s gonna make me laugh or cringe, honestly), a social deduction game — that’s when you basically just shout “It’s him!” at your friends — and then there’s the cherry on top: a trivia RPG called Legends of Trivia. Sounds pretty epic, right?
Legends of Trivia takes trivia up a notch, throwing a fantasy twist into the mix. Picture this: you, teaming up with your best buddies, battling monsters and villains just by answering trivia. Not gonna lie, I might end up annoying everyone by shouting random guesses. Anyway, you gotta get those answers right to avoid getting smacked by the baddies. Fun times, huh?
So, I managed to chat with some folks behind the game. Warren Arnold (the guy calling the shots), Hector Padilla (makes all the cool art), and Nate Sandberg (the audio wizard) sat down to spill the beans. This game’s brewing with action, some serious animation, and the whole shebang. It’s big — like monster-game big.
Now, Hector was the mastermind with this idea like eons ago — okay, maybe just five or six years, but feels like a decade, right? First pitch didn’t go as planned, but hey, they figured it out eventually. Nate swooped in, said, “Yo, send me your notes,” and boom, they got the green light to craft this trivia-RPG masterpiece.
Nate’s a Final Fantasy fan. Aren’t we all? Those 8-bit tunes practically molded his brain. He mixed those classic vibes with fantasy instruments — a lute, a bodhran (had to Google what that was), and his trusty trombone. Kinda serious sound, which isn’t typical for Jackbox. So, to keep it fun, he threw in some cartoon noises. Picture a jaw harp here, some silly squeaks there.
And Hector? Total Pokémon nerd! Ken Sugimori, the Pokemon legend, all over his inspiration board. Crafting characters is a cakewalk for him, but when it comes to interface stuff, it gets trickier. Maybe the UI’s stuck in a Poké Ball? Bad joke, but bear with me.
Got any fave characters, you ask? Hector’s all about Azura, The Princess Mage. Apparently, she channels his inner magical girl. I didn’t even know he had one, but hey, live and learn. Also, there’s Bingo, The Rogue Jester — fits right in with the game’s vibe. Clowns, folks. Stop running, they’re fine, I swear.
Nate can’t stop talking about the ogre boss sound — a giant ogre on a tiny donkey. Visual comedy gold. He hit it with xylophones and squeaky toys for the donkey. The ogre? Big. Booming. Contrasts like you wouldn’t believe.
What’s the goal? Hector wants you to really dive into this world. Feel like your decisions matter, like picking the right avatar is some sort of big cosmic deal. Nate hopes his tunes nudge you down memory lane, maybe remind you of some old-school RPGs.
So yeah, look out for The Jackbox Party Pack 11 on Xbox this fall. And if social media’s your thing, Jackbox Games is all over Instagram and TikTok. Go stalk them for more game updates!
