Whoa, okay, so here we are. Meta and Microsoft kinda decided to team up and drop this new thing – the Quest 3S Xbox Edition. Sounds fancy, right? Well, it’s out today! But don’t get too excited, like, if you think this is the Xbox finally trying to do something like PlayStation VR. Nope. Nada. This is basically just a new color scheme – think of it as Xbox black and green paint job on the regular Quest 3S (128GB). Okay, maybe it’s a tad more than just colors.
Anyway, they’ve slapped a $399.99 price tag on this thing. You open the box and bam! There’s a pair of flashy matching Touch Plus controllers for your VR and MR joyrides, an Xbox controller that’s also in this limited edition look, an Elite Strap (but not the one with the extra battery, sigh), and a three-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate freebie tucked in there.
So, pause for a second—look at that package. If you were planning to piece these bits together on your own, it’d set you back around $490. Crazy, huh? Here’s how the math goes: Quest 3S 128GB itself is $299, then you add a Quest Elite Strap for $69, throw in the regular Xbox controller at $64, plus the 3-month Xbox Game Pass worth $60.
But hey, if you’re someone who’s already jiving with a supported Xbox controller and enjoying an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, do you really need this special edition headset? Maybe not. Because ever since late 2023, Microsoft and Meta let you hop into Xbox cloud gaming on Quest, like even on Quest 2 and newer ones. Over 400 games to choose, if you’re asking.
Oh, and sneaky little add-on here: Quest 3S Xbox Edition gives you a three-month ride on Meta’s Horizon+ game service. Normally costs $8 monthly. You get to download from a library of 30+ games – Asgard’s Wrath 2, anyone? Red Matter, Demeo – plus two games per month you can hold onto as long as you’re a subscriber.
I mean, if you’re still debating, which… I would be, just maybe check out our review on the Quest 3S. Specs and deep dives galore.
Oh, and let’s not breeze past this – while this Xbox Edition was hyped up back in April 2024 at Connect, Meta’s cooking up some other XR headsets that nobody’s even seen yet. Partnerships are brewing with ASUS Republic of Gamers and Lenovo to whip up new headsets running Horizon OS. ASUS is eyeing performance while Lenovo wants productivity, learning, and… entertainment? Okay.
For now, if you’re keen to snag the Quest 3S Xbox Edition, websites like meta.com, Best Buy in the US, and Argos and EE in the UK have them – allegedly in “extremely limited” amounts. So yeah, grab them before they vanish into thin air.
