So there I was, trying to dive into this game called Assetto Corsa EVO – yeah, I know, fancy name. Early access launched some months back, but folks weren’t exactly thrilled about the whole VR thing. Maybe it’s just me, but why release something half-ready? Anyway, they’ve tossed out this 0.2 update now, promising to smooth out the VR experience.
Oh, and there are new toys! 🚗 Seven shiny cars to play with, like the Maserati GT2 and the Lotus Exige V6 Cup. And tracks! COTA and Donington Park – the names have a nice ring to them, don’t they? I’m not a gearhead, but even I can see why someone might drool over these.
But let’s get back to the part that really bugged me. The VR stuff. Apparently, the devs at KUNOS Simulazioni – cool name, rolls off the tongue – are calling this their “step two” for VR. Meaning they’re still figuring out how to make those headsets work without giving folks motion sickness. Maybe they should’ve called it “step one and a half”?
Graphics got a bit of love too. Things like VR TV cameras, “dynamic” mirror mode – whatever that means – and some kind of video setting tweaks. DLSS is in there, which, if I’m honest, sounds like some super cereal brand. Also, they added grass. Not kidding – new grass type, globally. Didn’t know we needed that, but here we are.
Switching between VR and those big triple screens is supposed to be less of a pain now. Not sure who’s got the rig for that – costs a bomb, or so I’ve heard – but hey, lucky them.
Some techie video popped up showing off this new version next to the older 0.16. Credit goes to ‘HYPEVR TV’ if you’re curious, but I’d rather read a book. Apparently, the improvements are solid, though.
The journey’s still on, with six more updates before they hit the grand 1.0 version in Fall 2025. Fingers crossed they iron out the little things – ‘cause $32 is a lot for something that might still wobble on the VR front.
And there’s some flashy roadmap image stuck in my head now, but that’s another day’s story.
