Oh man, the vibe at PAX East was something else. Imagine a room full of people getting really loud and over-the-moon excited as Wizards of the Coast pulls the curtain back on their Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy mashup. Sounds just like you’d expect, right? Packed with everything from Chocobos (my favorite!) to these amazing land cards that totally scream iconic Final Fantasy places. You could feel the energy—kinda like a mix of chaos and joy.
So, they showed some cards back in February, right? But this walk-through at PAX gave folks a deep dive—more like jumping headfirst into everything that’s coming this summer. I mean, it’s not just what you’re gonna see, but how you’re gonna play. Which, honestly, had my brain spinning with all the possibilities.
And get this, they’ve got Yoshitaka Amano back at it again! I mean, the guy’s a legend, and he’s done up the new take on Kefka (and probably a bunch more) in his own style. Makes you wonder how he keeps things fresh. Total artist goals.
This set is, like, the latest in all their wild crossovers. We’ve got everything from Hobbits to superheroes now—why not add a few more Chocobos? Apparently, according to Hasbro’s head honcho Chris Cocks, this thing is selling like hotcakes. Even with the economy doing its thing—go figure—the Final Fantasy set is breaking records.
Anyway, sorry, got sidetracked. We’re counting the days here, with the big release happening on June 13. But if you’re like me and can’t wait, there’s already a way to snag those packs right on launch day. Guess I know where my next paycheck’s going.
