Man, okay, so here we go. Apparently, there’s this thing on TikTok, of all places, where students are, like, jamming random stuff into their Chromebook ports. I know—crazy, right?
So, there was this headline, something like “TikTok Trends Make Chromebooks Go Boom!” and honestly, just why? I saw this on Axios or somewhere. Basically, kids all over the U.S. are damaging those school Chromebooks. Sounds edgy, but it’s led to, I kid you not, school evacuations. I guess authorities don’t think it’s that cool. Also, sidenote: Apparently, you can get into real legal trouble for this. So yeah, hey, maybe not the best idea.
Okay, picture this: It’s called the “ChromebookChallenge.” You gotta love trendy names. Students are using pencils or paper clips or whatever metallic thing they find and shoving them into USB ports. No idea why, but sure, it causes the batteries to freak out and sometimes, boom. Full-on “Chromebook fireworks.” I’m pretty sure Denver schools were in on this, but it’s all over the place, really.
There’s this picture floating around online, from TikTok of course—and I’m thinking, who even takes these pics? It’s just wild.
Why even start this? I guess some kids crave that moment of internet fame or just wanna mess with classes. Makes sense, right? I don’t get it. But then, what do they care? They’re not buying the replacements. But still, I’d freak out if anything caught fire near me. Batteries going wild isn’t exactly my idea of fun times.
We’ve gotta be the grown-ups here. Maybe leave these trends in the digital trash bin? TikTok’s not exactly turning down the volume on these wild ideas. What’s next, exploding toasters? I’d rather not find out.
