It’s the middle of the week—hump day! And guess what? PlayStation’s got a brand-spanking-new studio to introduce. Don’t worry, they won’t chomp on you. That’s more the execs’ style. We’ve got teamLFG here, now officially part of the PlayStation fam, and they’re cooking up some multiplayer game magic with a dash of “frog-type games” inspiration. Yeah, you heard that right: frogs.
This juicy tidbit dropped via a PS Blog post. Hermen Hulst, Sony’s big cheese over at the studio business group, sounded like a proud papa showing off his brand-new shiny thing. But, you know, sink or swim—live service games can be a scary ocean to navigate.
So, this teamLFG, as they call themselves (as opposed to something a bit more… colorful), is setting up shop in Bellevue, Washington. It’s a blend of fresh faces and gaming vets with creds from heavy hitters like Destiny, Halo, and League of Legends. And yeah, they’re branching out from Bungie.
Their mission? Craft games with rad action and seriously social vibes. It’s all about making spaces where folks can buddy up, chill, and belong. Sounds cool, right? PlayStation’s live-service games are full steam ahead, with teamLFG diving into this “incubation project” they kind of mentioned around Bungie’s layoffs.
Their first gig is a team-based action escapade pulling from everything under the sun: fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and, curiously, “frog-type games.” Imagine a whimsical, chuckle-inducing universe with some mythic science-fantasy flair. Seriously can’t wait to see what that even means, right?
Frog-type? Not exactly leaping over logs Frogger style, but still, I’m scratching my head over here. Are we talking some Tekken-Mario mashup with a Dota dash and a splash of Crazy Frog vibes? Who knows, but it sounds wild!
Early access playtests seem to be on the horizon, with teamLFG valuing player input a ton.
Do you think a Crazy Frog-esque mashup’s what PlayStation needs right now? Or maybe it’s something else they’ll whip up? Drop your thoughts below.
