Late last year, I stumbled upon this news bit about Sightful. They had this funky laptop with AR glasses, right? But bam! They ditched it for some AR workspace software for Windows instead. Fast forward, and now they’ve rolled out something called Spacetop for Windows. It’s supposed to, like, turn wherever you are into a private virtual screen that floats in front of you. Handy for those of us always on the move, I guess.
Now, I remember their earlier tech—had this whole ‘headless’ laptop thing going on with SpaceOS. Anyway, they canned it last October, refunded everyone, and that gizmo was about $1,900. Crazy, right? They said something about neural processing units making AR stuff way more efficient. But who really knows?
Jump to the present, and Sightful’s got their Spacetop Bundle for $899. It comes with XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses, usually $699, and a year’s Spacetop subscription. But hey, the subscription’s like $200 a year after that, so there’s that. Ah, and if you wear glasses like me, they offer prescription lenses for an extra cost. Smart move on their part.
Speaking of laptops, they recommend a few: Dell XPS Core Ultra 7, HP Elitebook, Lenovo Yoga Slim, etc. I think I saw Acer and Microsoft models in there too. But apparently, it’s not the full list. Basically, if it has an Intel Core Ultra 7/9 processor, it’s probably good to go.
As for features, let’s see… They’re talking about seamless app access, a huge 100” display, ergonomic benefits, and all-day comfy glasses. Oh, and you can keep your workspace with you everywhere—plane, train, or just lounging at home. They raised over $61M, made up of former tech giants. Their HQ’s in Tel Aviv but they’ve got places in Palo Alto, New York, and Taiwan. More deets online if you’re curious.
