Oh man, where to even start with Maelle? Seriously, she’s like this unbeatable whirlwind in the game, a force of nature, or ya know… whatever. By the time you hit Act 3, bam! Her skill tree unfolds like a spectacular, messy origami. It’s wild. I guess even before they patched things up, her Stendhal ability was basically a cheat code. Players were saying, “yeah, I’m dishing out a billion damage,” and I just shook my head. Why did that stick with me? No idea.
But even after the nerf—a word I never thought I’d use this much—Maelle is the powerhouse in Clair Obscur. Each fight feels like she’s breezing through a garden on a sunny day, except instead of flowers, it’s enemies. I mean, sometimes it’s so mechanical, setting everything up with other characters. Burn a few enemies with Lune, just to watch Maelle go full Virtuoso Stance. Side note: making up phrases like “Virtuoso Stance” feels oddly satisfying. Anyway, in those long fights where you’re like, “c’mon, do you ever die?” it’s a game to watch Maelle’s damage numbers blast through the stratosphere.
Now, some folks in the game aren’t just looking to survive, they’re trying to bust it wide open, you know? Like, why fight fair when you can just shatter the mechanics? And I can’t really blame them. Sure, Maelle is the go-to for that, but Sciel with her scythe is lurking in the shadows ready to join the chaos. It’s like they’re not even trying to win, more like, “how far can we push this?”
Then there’s Lune, who’s more your buddy healer type but can still drop some pain on multiple foes. I never quite got Verso’s Perfection though—maybe it’s just me. And Monoco, oh boy. So tricky, took ages to figure that guy out. Late-game, something clicked, and suddenly enemy punishment became his late-night hobby. But hitting 1.1 billion damage with him? Yeah, not happening in this lifetime.
Even if Maelle got her wings clipped back in May, you can still totally wreck things, as Sandfall and a bunch of players will tell you. Honestly, it feels like anyone getting to Renoir’s Drafts level knows it’s not a picnic. Even if you’re trigger-happy with an OP build, sometimes it feels like the game’s playing you, not the other way around. Good luck out there, folks.
