God bless Yuji Horii’s knack for letting secrets slip, or maybe it’s just a charming inability to keep a lid on things—I can’t decide.
So, I guess we’re diving right into the chatter that one of the RPG Dream Team’s brightest minds might’ve accidentally—or, who knows, maybe intentionally—hinted at something big for Chrono Trigger’s 30th. Yep, folks at a comic con in Napoli caught Yuji Horii, you know, the Dragon Quest guy, sharing a little too much during a panel. Like, he mentioned Chrono Trigger getting a remake or something. Talk about a mic drop moment! The panel host was like, “Wait, did you really say that?” And all Horii did was cover his mouth. The translator tried playing cool with a “you heard nothing” line, but the crowd? Oh, they were loving it.
It’s not exactly the first time he’s done this either. Back in July 2015, Horii went and confirmed localizations for DQ VII and VIII right out of the blue—DQ VII had already been hanging out in Japan for over two years by then. And then, just to mix things up even more, he dropped the bomb that DQ XI would be on the “NX.” Yep, that was what they called the Switch back in the day, when it was supposed to be all about PS4 and 3DS. Seriously, you’ve gotta love the unpredictability.
Anyway, let’s fast forward to March 11. That day marked Chrono Trigger’s 30th anniversary in Japan. Square Enix chimed in too, hinting at more anniversary fun, but stayed all hush-hush on the details. Classic Enix, right?
So, whether this remake is a real thing or just another playful Horii moment is anyone’s guess. But man, the anticipation is buzzing.
