So, EA threw this big show for Battlefield 6’s multiplayer. You probably didn’t miss it — unless you fell asleep. It was like them sticking a huge spotlight on the game’s kick-ass features, but also kind of dancing around stuff we actually wanted to see. Classic, right?
They went all-in on chatting about maps and modes. Features galore. But… and there’s always a but… what about that thing everyone was buzzing about? No, seriously, where was it?
Okay, technically they didn’t leave it out — not totally. Just gave it the ol’ half-assed treatment by flashing it for a hot second. Yup, I’m talking about that infamous battle royale mode. The one that’s brewing over at Ripple Effect, those Portal wizards.
Right at the end, they tossed a teaser. Like a breadcrumb. Just before letting a swarm of content creators run wild with the game footage. You blink, you miss, players scuttling away from some off-screen doom — yeah, turns out it’s a wall of fire. Because who doesn’t love a fiery doom, am I right?
Vehicles zoomed by — big surprise there. They didn’t flat-out say it’s battle royale or whether it’s called Firestorm. But, come on, the flaming ring of doom pretty much screamed, “Hey, remember Battlefield 5’s Firestorm? Here we go again!”
Now, wouldn’t it be a hoot if they stick with the Firestorm name? Joke’s on us with that Operation Firestorm map in there too. Talk about mix-ups.
They kept tight-lipped about whether this mode drops with Battlefield 6 on October 10. But they did let slip that Battlefield Labs folks will get a sneak peek soon. Free-to-play is the name of the game — gotta keep up with Call of Duty: Warzone. Makes sense if EA is shooting for that 100 million player mark. Madness, right?
