Okay, so here’s the thing — FMV games, right? They’ve been sneaking back into the gaming world like they own the place, all indie-style. Feels kinda like those pick-your-path books but, you know, on a screen. Remember The Shapeshifting Detective? Had that whole murder mystery vibe with some quirky actors doing their thing. Oh, and games like Not for Broadcast—those give you more to fiddle with and they’re hilarious. Along comes Dark Rift Horror, tossing their hat in the ring with Dead Reset. It’s shaping up to be one weird horror mystery. Or at least, that’s the hope.
So, Dead Reset. You’ve got this guy, Cole Mason, who’s a surgeon, just chilling—or maybe not—on the floor of a space station. Totally gives off that Aliens vibe. Before you know it, some gun-wielding guard yanks him up all bossy-like, dragging him to an operating table. There’s a patient with this freaky growth, needing surgery ASAP. You’ve got a gun to your head and this authority guy and a friend demanding you operate. Wild, right? You get these “choose this or that” moments deciding where the story goes. I tried having Cole grab the gun but that didn’t go so well—kind of a horror show with aliens mucking it up for everyone.
But wait, Cole’s in a time loop. How do I know? Well, he dies again and again. It’s a learning curve with lots of messy outcomes, like getting an arm shot off ’cause of some gun ID fail. But hey, I finally figured a way out to move things forward to catch the alien. The demo wraps with that and, BAM, there’s still this big question mark. Like, what now?
Oh, and the actors? They’re all in, full throttle. Mostly nailed it, but some tense parts kinda stumbled. Maybe it’s how fast things ramp up, making strangers act like old pals. Horror vibes do that, you know? People bond under stress. The gore—wow. It’s intense but avoids goofy territory by keeping the alien just out of full view. Looking at you, Area 51 arcade flashes of gunfire. It’s low budget, but they make it work so it doesn’t look like some high school drama project went sideways.
In short, my dive into Dead Reset was kinda cool. Enough intrigue to keep me guessing about Cole and the whole alien mess. The preview had its hooks in me. Come September 11th, it’s on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Can’t wait, seriously.
