Man, so here’s the deal—with the new Nintendo Switch 2 coming out like, next week or something, Nintendo’s doing that thing where they kinda tease us with little bits of info. Teasing, taunting… same thing? Anyway, so I saw on this Nintendo Today app on Tuesday—while I should’ve been doing something else—that they’re giving us some cool features to play with on the Switch 2, especially for N64 games. Remember those? Good times.
Okay, first up, they’ve added this rewind thing. Think about it. You mess up a jump in some platformer, or—my personal nightmare—you launch yourself off Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 64. Now, you can just rewind and pretend you’re a pro. Wish life had features like that, right?
Then there’s this thing about CRT filters. Yep, you’ll be able to slap on some old-school scan-lines to your games. Zelda: Ocarina of Time looking like it’s straight out of 1998 again. Why do I miss those weird visuals? Can’t explain it. Nostalgia’s a funny thing.
Oh, but here’s a twist—while those are exclusive to the Switch 2, both it and the original Switch are getting this ability to remap controls for N64 games. So maybe you prefer your controls a different way. I get it—the Joy-Cons can be weird. Or if you’ve got that Nintendo 64 controller lying around, you can map to that too. Pretty neat, huh?
