Space Marine 2 Mod Introduces Thomas the Tank Engine Character

Courtesy of a creative mod, players now have the amusing task of safeguarding Thomas the Tank Engine in one of the game’s PvE missions. This quirky addition swaps out the futuristic fusion battery escort for a mission where players guide the beloved blue train along the tracks. This gem of a mod is just one among many fan-made creations enhancing Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. Alongside these fan contributions, the game itself has been updated with a slew of new content.

Building off the 2011 original, Space Marine 2 has quickly secured its spot as a favorite in the eyes of many Warhammer 40K fans since its release in September 2024. This sequel takes everything that players loved about its predecessor and amplifies it, featuring stunning visuals, heightened gameplay enjoyment, and a more diverse lineup of enemies to battle against. While the adrenaline-pumping combat remains central, Space Marine 2 now also boasts a PvP mode. And for those more inclined towards cooperation, the PvE missions bring the option to include Thomas the Tank Engine, thanks to community creativity.

The masterminds behind this amusing addition is Tom, from Warhammer Workshop, who cleverly substituted the fusion battery model with the iconic locomotive. When downloaded and applied, this mod allows players to witness Thomas in the Ballistic Engine mission, where the challenge is to escort him along the track. Tom humorously warns players to prepare themselves, as once they embark on this train adventure, “there’s no stopping the train.”

Having a Thomas the Tank Engine mod is somewhat of a rite of passage for video games, marking Space Marine 2’s recognition among popular titles like Skyrim and Elden Ring that also have their versions of the famous train. Tom, the mod’s creator, hinted at another upcoming mod involving a certain green ogre known for residing in a swamp. On the official side of things, Space Marine 2’s developers, Saber Interactive, have been genuinely busy, rolling out a variety of updates. Notably, this year saw the anticipated arrival of the 6.0 update, introducing new enemies and a fresh PvP map for players to explore. Looking ahead, Saber Interactive is gearing up to adopt a live-service, seasonal model for Space Marine 2 moving into 2025, echoing the current trend for ongoing online games.
