Hey, so the WNBA’s new season kicks off soon — this week actually. Meta’s doing its thing again, and livestreaming a bunch of games on Quest. It’s over on the Xtadium app and, oh, Horizon Worlds NBA Arena too. You got a Quest? Cool. You can catch 20 games live, five of them in some crazy 180-degree immersive video. I mean, isn’t that wild? But — wait, where was I going with this?
Okay, yes. So, it’s all happening in this Xtadium app. US-only, though. Sorry if you’re elsewhere. Live games, video stuff, you name it. You can even host these private watch parties. Like, you and your friends, virtually vibing to the game. Over in NBA Arena? They’re doing public watch parties. Imagine being virtually part of something big. Yeah, sounds kinda cool, right?
Starting May 27th — fun fact here, NBA Arena’s gonna have WNBA avatar merch, so you can show off your support. It’s right in Horizon Worlds app, like, no fuss.
Oh, but here’s the kicker. Geo-restrictions! Ugh, right? Some games might be a no-go if you’re nearby. Local blackouts and all that. Why do they do this? Who knows.
So, anyway, let’s look at some games. How about this:
– May 18: Minnesota Lynx vs. Los Angeles Sparks at 3:00 pm PT. Sweet!
– May 27: Boom! Chicago Sky at Phoenix Mercury, 7:00 pm PT – immersive!
– June 9: Golden State Valkyries? Yeah, them against Los Angeles Sparks at 7:00 pm PT.
And there’s more. But, like, maybe I should skip a few? No one wants to be flooded with dates and times, right? Anyway, if you’re into this stuff — and, honestly, even if you’re just curious — these virtual experiences might be fun. The sound and feel — totally different level. Just give it a shot. Or, don’t. I mean, who am I to tell you what to do?
