With the transition to the PS5 taking center stage for PlayStation users, the PS4 era is gradually winding down. As part of this shift, a well-loved MMORPG won’t be continuing its journey on the older consoles, though fans have the opportunity to switch to the current-gen version without any additional cost.
Pearl Abyss is preparing to bid farewell to the PS4 and Xbox One editions of Black Desert Online. For those adventurers, the countdown has started to make the most of the game on these platforms before it embraces the new generation consoles completely. The official shutdown is scheduled for June 26, during a routine maintenance period. Fortunately, gamers transitioning to newer consoles can do so without losing their account details or purchases, as everything will be seamlessly carried over.
Brian Choi, who manages the live service of Black Desert Console, reassures players about the transition, stating, “Rest assured, your game data will be safely stored.” He emphasizes that all account information and rights associated with Black Desert will be retained when players move to either the PS5 or Xbox Series consoles. Choi acknowledges that some users might find this news a little disappointing, but highlights the game’s consistent updates aimed at enhancing the player experience.
Furthermore, Choi elaborates on the decision, “We’ve reached a point where the older generation’s hardware constraints make it tough to deliver the latest content effectively,” he explains. Hence, after much deliberation, the team concluded that it was more beneficial to concentrate their efforts on the PS5 and Xbox Series platforms for a smoother, more enhanced gameplay experience.
Black Desert Online made its debut in the United States back in 2016 and initially garnered mixed feedback. On Metacritic, a site that compiles reviews, it secured an average score of 73 from 35 critics at launch. It eventually made its way to the PS4 and Xbox One in 2019, further expanding its audience.
