Hey there! So, I’m Michael Frei. You know, the guy behind that game where you actually get to be a fly, buzzing around and being all fly-like. Yeah, it’s called Time Flies and it’s hitting the PlayStation 5 soon. I mean, July 31st soon. Super exciting, right? Maybe you caught a glimpse of it on that PlayStation Blog thing – I have no idea how it all works, but it somehow did. Anyway, now it’s almost here. Yay!
So, before you start your exciting life as a fly – because why wouldn’t you want to do that? – we’ve got this check-in to see where you’re playing from.
There’s this bit where you pick your country. It’s like, if you’re from Switzerland, WHO says you’ve got, like, 83.3 years to live, which we creatively turned into 83.3 seconds. ‘Cause, you know – fly life. Meanwhile, across the pond in the US, it’s 76.4 years. Yep, you guessed it, 76.4 seconds. Shorter life for American flies, but whatever, right?
Honestly, it’s going to be trickier in some countries. Random, but I just thought about it.
So, yeah… what’s a fly got to do before it, well, kicks the bucket? That existential thing, right? But, don’t worry too much. We threw in a bucket list. You kinda figure it out as you go. Trust me, it’s one of those things you’ll flail through at first, but hey, trial and error’s a thing. You’re basically living a fly’s life over and over. Infinite retries – perks of being digital, I guess.
And oh, my favorite part? The whole “Find God” thing. Seriously, we brainstormed so hard to nail that – no spoilers, though! Just expect a bit of DIY on the finding-God thing.
Have you ever thought about playing a game within a game? Like, you’re a fly, playing video games as a fly? Mind-bending stuff, but we had to tweak it ‘cause, uh, technical stuff.
Yeah, the game was almost a platformer. But, turns out, a fly can’t do a lot. I mean, who knew, right? You basically just hop on stuff. Simplicity is key here. Just some stick controls. Very tactile.
Finally, we went for a super simple game setup. Just three virtual buttons. You don’t need to shoot for the stars to find what you’re looking for. Maybe a game within a game within a game. I’m not even joking.
