Oh man, VR Games Showcase is back next month with a bunch of big XR game stuff. It’s like Christmas in August. Not that I’d know what Christmas in August feels like, but you get the idea.
So, it all kicks off on August 12th at some weirdly specific time — 8:40 AM PT, probably too early for anyone who loves sleep — with this ‘XR Indies & Friends’ thing. A bit of a warm-up, I guess, before the main show gets rolling at 9:00 AM.
The folks organizing this shindig are teasing “big reveals and updates” for Quest, PSVR 2, and PC VR headsets. I mean, they’re hyping it up as the most solid line-up they’ve ever had. Sounds like a huge promise, right? We’ve got Forefront from Triangle Factory, Reach from nDreams Elevation, and whatever Flat2VR Studios is brewing — sounds like a real mix of mystery and excitement there.
And then there’s Polyarc. They’re showing off Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss. Supposedly, it’s this VR Developer Direct thing coming straight from their Seattle office. I was in Seattle once. Beautiful place. Rainy, though. But this isn’t about me or the rain, is it?
The pre-show bit — “XR Indies & Friends” — is only like 20 minutes, so blink and you might just miss some cool indie stuff heading to headsets soon-ish. Probably worth your time if you’re into the off-beaten-path games.
Anyway, what do we know about what’s coming?
– Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss, which sounds like a mashup of strategy and the classic Moss magic.
– Updates on Forefront, that multi-player VR shooter thing from Triangle Factory.
– More insights into Reach by nDreams Elevation, with fancy new trailers.
– And Flat2VR Studios dropping some cool new things and a fresh development initiative. Whatever that means.
So, yeah! Loads to keep an eye on. Mark your calendars, set your alarms, maybe make some popcorn. You can catch all this VR madness live streamed on August 12th at 8:40 AM PT / 11:40 AM ET. You’ll find it on YouTube and TikTok Live. Let’s hope it’s worth the early wake-up call.
